Ingredients

Dough
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 120 ml warm water about 110°F/43°C
  • 1 cucchiaino sugar
  • 1 cucchiaino instant yeast
  • 1 cucchiaio vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cucchiaino baking powder
Filling
  • 200 g cooked chicken, shredded
  • 2 cucchiai soy sauce
  • 1 cucchiaio hoisin sauce
  • 1 cucchiaino sesame oil
  • 1 g green onion, finely chopped

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Add flour, baking powder, and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix shredded chicken, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and green onion. Set aside.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten into a circle about 3 inches in diameter.
  6. Place about 1 tablespoon of the chicken mixture in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch to seal.
  7. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper and place the bao buns in a single layer, leaving space between them.
  9. Air fry the buns for 10-12 minutes or until they are fluffy and slightly golden on top.
  10. Serve warm with additional soy sauce for dipping.

Notes

For best results, ensure the chicken filling is well-seasoned and use a light touch when sealing the buns to avoid tearing the dough.
