  • 227 g unsalted butter softened
  • 200 g granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 240 g all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 100 g granulated sugar for rolling
  • 24 chocolate heart candies such as Hershey’s Kisses or similar

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and coat each ball in granulated sugar.
  7. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Immediately press a chocolate heart candy into the center of each cookie while still warm.
  10. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Let cookies cool slightly before adding chocolate hearts to prevent melting. Store in an airtight container to keep cookies fresh for up to a week.
