Ingredients
  

For the Dough
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk 110°F/45°C
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
For the Lemon Filling
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
For the Lemon Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp lemon zest

Method
 

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and salt. Gradually add flour and knead until the dough is soft and slightly sticky (5–7 minutes).
  3. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. While the dough rises, mix softened butter, sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice until smooth.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a 12x18-inch rectangle. Spread the lemon filling evenly over the dough.
  6. Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log. Slice into 12 equal rolls and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  7. Cover and let the rolls rise for 30 minutes or until puffy.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Whisk powdered sugar, lemon juice, and zest until smooth.
  10. Drizzle the lemon glaze over the warm rolls and enjoy!

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a sprinkle of poppy seeds to the filling, and brush the rolls with melted butter after baking for a softer texture.
