  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds flavor
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Adds depth of flavor
  • 1 tsp salt Season to taste
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper Freshly ground for best flavor

Mushroom Gravy
  • 227 g sliced mushrooms Use white or cremini mushrooms
  • 480 ml beef broth Low sodium if preferred
  • 2 tbsp flour Thickens the gravy
  • 2 tbsp butter For rich flavor
  • 120 ml milk or cream For a creamy texture
To Serve
  • 200 g mashed potatoes Creamy and smooth
  • 150 g steamed green beans Adds a fresh crunch
  • 5 g fresh parsley For garnish

Equipment

  • Large Skillet

Method

  1. Make the patties: In a bowl, mix ground beef, Panko, egg, half of the onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Shape into 4 oval patties.
  2. Brown the steaks: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with a little oil. Cook the patties for about 4–5 minutes per side, until nicely browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the gravy: Add butter and the remaining onion and mushrooms to the same skillet. Cook until the mushrooms are browned and tender. Sprinkle in the flour and stir for about 1 minute.
  4. Add the broth: Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring. Let the gravy simmer until it thickens and becomes rich and smooth.
  5. Finish cooking: Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet. Cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes, until the patties are cooked through and coated in the delicious mushroom gravy.
  6. Serve: Spoon plenty of gravy and mushrooms over each steak. Serve alongside creamy mashed potatoes and green beans. Add fresh parsley for a little color.
