Ingredients

Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cucchiaino active dry yeast
  • 120 ml warm water 110°F/45°C
  • 1 cucchiaio sugar
  • 0.25 cucchiaino salt
  • 1 cucchiaio vegetable oil
Filling
  • 1 cup cooked chicken, shredded
  • 2 cucchiai soy sauce
  • 1 cucchiaino sesame oil
  • 1 pezzo green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cucchiaino ginger, minced
  • 1 cucchiaino garlic, minced

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Mixing Bowl

Method

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for 1 hour.
  4. While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. In a bowl, mix shredded chicken, soy sauce, sesame oil, green onion, ginger, and garlic. Set aside.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle about 4 inches in diameter.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the chicken filling in the center of each dough circle. Gather the edges and pinch to seal tightly.
  7. Preheat the air fryer to 320°F (160°C). Line the basket with parchment paper.
  8. Arrange the baozi in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they don’t touch. Cook in batches if necessary.
  9. Air fry for 12-15 minutes, until the baozi are golden and puffed.
  10. Serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, steam the baozi for 5 minutes after air frying for a softer texture. Serve with a dipping sauce of your choice.
