Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup pumpkin puree (unsweetened, not pumpkin pie filling)
- 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
- ¼ cup natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)
- 1 large egg
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- Optional: 2 tbsp ground flaxseed
- Optional: 2 tbsp rolled oats
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine pumpkin puree, peanut butter, and egg. Mix until smooth.
- Gradually stir in the whole wheat flour and any optional add-ins until a firm dough forms.
- Roll dough on a floured surface to ¼ inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters.
- Place treats on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden and crisp. For softer treats, bake for 15–18 minutes.
- Cool completely on a wire rack before serving or storing.
Notes
- Make sure peanut butter is xylitol-free—it’s toxic to dogs.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days, refrigerate for 2 weeks, or freeze for 3 months.
- Use oat or rice flour for a wheat-free option.
- Fresh pumpkin can be used in place of canned—just roast, puree, and cool before using.
- Add shredded carrots, apples, or chia seeds for extra nutrition.
