Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 can (15 oz) green beans, drained
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup French fried onions
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Brown the beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and no longer pink, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Drain off any excess fat.
- Mix the casserole base: In a large bowl, combine the cooked ground beef, drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together until well blended.
- Assemble: Spoon the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Add cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for about 25 minutes, until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese is melted.
- Top with crispy onions: Remove the casserole from the oven and scatter the French fried onions over the top. Return to the oven and bake for another 5–10 minutes, or until the onions are crisp and golden.
Notes
- You can add a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the ground beef for extra flavor.
- For a richer taste, use a combination of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese.
- This recipe makes a great make-ahead meal; simply assemble and refrigerate, then bake when ready. You might need to add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
