Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup long grain white rice (uncooked)
- 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup (condensed)
- 1 cup beef broth (or water with bouillon)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, sliced
- 1 packet dry onion soup mix
- Optional Add-ins:
- 1/2 cup sautéed mushrooms
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan
- Chopped parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8×8 or 9×9 inch baking dish.
- In the baking dish, combine rice, French onion soup, beef broth, and onion soup mix. Stir to combine evenly.
- Scatter butter slices evenly over the top — do not stir.
- Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 30–35 minutes, or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
- Fluff gently with a fork. Top with cheese, fresh parsley, or serve as-is. Enjoy warm!
Notes
- Use vegetable broth and vegetarian onion soup mix for a meatless version.
- Brown rice can be used but will require longer cooking and additional liquid.
- For extra depth, stir in sautéed mushrooms before baking.
- Pairs well with nearly any protein — chicken, beef, or even a poached egg!
- Let the rice rest 5 minutes before fluffing for best texture.
