Easy Cinnamon Sugar Churros Recipe Guide

Crispy, golden churros coated in cinnamon sugar are the ultimate dessert indulgence. Perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, these churros are easy to make at home and irresistible when dipped in chocolate or caramel sauce!

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240ml) water
  • 2 ½ tbsp (35g) granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp (30g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • Optional Dips:
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, and butter. Heat over medium heat until the butter melts and the mixture comes to a simmer.
  3. Reduce heat to low, add the flour, and stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until a smooth dough forms. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  4. Cool and Add Egg:
  5. Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl and let it cool for 5 minutes.
  6. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract using a hand mixer or stand mixer until the dough is smooth and slightly sticky.
  7. Prepare for Frying:
  8. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan or pot to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped tip.
  10. Pipe and Fry:
  11. Pipe 5-6 inch strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting with scissors as you go. Fry in batches, turning occasionally, for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown.
  12. Use a slotted spoon to transfer churros to a paper towel-lined plate.
  13. Coat and Serve:
  14. In a shallow dish, mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Roll warm churros in the cinnamon sugar until fully coated.
  15. Serve immediately with chocolate or caramel sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For the best results, use a thermometer to maintain oil temperature while frying.
  • Churros are best enjoyed fresh and warm for maximum crunch.
  • Leftover churros can be reheated in the oven, but avoid microwaving to retain their crispiness.
