- 2 tbsp (30g) unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- For the topping:
- 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
- 2 tbsp (25g) powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Chocolate shavings (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Crust:
- In a medium bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and sugar. Mix until the crumbs are evenly moistened.
- Press the mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes while preparing the filling.
- Make the Filling:
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together milk, heavy cream, sugar, egg yolks, cornstarch, and cocoa powder until smooth.
- Place over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble (about 6-8 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in chopped chocolate, butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and glossy.
- Assemble the Pie:
- Pour the chocolate filling into the chilled crust, smoothing the top with a spatula. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or until set.
- Prepare the Whipped Cream Topping:
- In a mixing bowl, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- Spread or pipe the whipped cream over the chilled pie. Garnish with chocolate shavings if desired.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Slice and serve cold. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
