Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 2 medium apples, thinly sliced (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (for dusting the apples)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- ¼ cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- Pinch of sea salt (optional, for sprinkling)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Thinly slice apples and toss with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and flour. Set aside.
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut into 6 even rectangles. Place on baking sheet.
- Layer 4–5 apple slices on each rectangle, leaving about ½ inch around the edges.
- Brush the edges with beaten egg.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes until puffed and golden.
- Drizzle warm pastries with caramel sauce and sprinkle sea salt if desired.
- Cool for 5–10 minutes, dust with powdered sugar, and serve.
Notes
- Use cold pastry for best puff.
- Slice apples thinly so they cook evenly.
- Don’t overload the pastry—just a few slices per piece.
- Can substitute pears, add nuts, or cream cheese under apples.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze before adding caramel.
