- For the Steaks
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil, for frying
- For the Mushroom Gravy
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Patties
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until combined.
- Form the mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties.
- Cook the Patties
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
- Transfer to a plate and set aside.
- Make the Gravy
- In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the chopped onions and sliced mushrooms. Sauté until soft and browned, about 6 to 7 minutes.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Slowly whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened, about 4 to 5 minutes.
- Combine and Finish
- Return the patties to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them. Simmer on low for another 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
- Serve hot over mashed potatoes or rice.
Notes
- For a richer gravy, you can use a combination of beef broth and red wine.
- Serve with a side of green beans or your favorite steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
