  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Steaks
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, for frying
  • For the Mushroom Gravy
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties
    1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until combined.
    2. Form the mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties.
  2. Cook the Patties
    1. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
    2. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  3. Make the Gravy
    1. In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the chopped onions and sliced mushrooms. Sauté until soft and browned, about 6 to 7 minutes.
    2. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
    3. Slowly whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened, about 4 to 5 minutes.
  4. Combine and Finish
    1. Return the patties to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them. Simmer on low for another 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
    2. Serve hot over mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

  • For a richer gravy, you can use a combination of beef broth and red wine.
