Ingredients
Scale
- For the Brownies:
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 ½ cups peeled, chopped apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith recommended)
- For the Maple Glaze:
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- ¼ cup pure maple syrup
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- Pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper or grease it well.
- In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter and brown sugar until smooth. Add egg and vanilla and mix until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, and salt.
- Add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chopped apples with a spatula.
- Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake for 28–32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.
- While the brownies cool, prepare the glaze: melt butter and maple syrup in a small saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Drizzle glaze over the cooled brownies and let set for 10–15 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- Use parchment paper for easy removal and clean cuts.
- Don’t overmix the batter — just stir until combined.
- Let the glaze set before slicing for best results.
- Try adding chopped pecans, white chocolate chips, or a caramel swirl for extra flair.
- Best apples: Honeycrisp for sweetness, Granny Smith for tartness — or mix both!
